Review
"Mary Randolph, an editor at Nolo, a publisher of do-it-yourself legal guides and author of "The Executor's Guide," says it is a good idea to get a lawyer to help unwind a trust, especially if it will hold a significant amount of money. Trust owners can take some steps on their own—for example, going to a bank to change ownership of a trust-owned bank account back into their names as individuals. But if the trust holds a business or another asset, that could be more complicated. "If you've got some money to spend on attorney fees—and most people who have created AB trusts do—it can save you a lot of trouble later, "Ms. Randolph says." Wall Street Journal
"Covers the gamut of estate chores and helps you get through them." Kiplinger's Retirement Report
"Explains how to find state-specific information, and an appendix sorts legalities by state." Miami Herald
"Provides a guide for executors and trustees, describing legal procedures and terminology, what to expect, decisions that will need to be made, and questions to ask." Reference & Research Book News
"The Executor's Guide [is] a super-detailed, step-by-step book that's a must-read." Beth Fenner, CNN "More Money" blog

Very helpful book
By Karen
I recently found myself in the position of dealing with my mother's estate after her death. While it hasn't actually been that complicated, I still found this book to be very useful in understanding how to deal with the various aspects of her estate. It has also given me insight into ways that I can make my own estate easier to be dealt with when my time comes.

A Definite Buy for the Layman
By 'DJ' Joe
Losing a loved one certainly can be a very emotional time and if you are not a lawyer or legal professional, can be quite confusing or overwhelming--this book can be very helpful to guide you through the process, especially if you find yourself the executor of a loved one's will. Even if your loved one left no will there is a chapter on that as well. The advice in this book ranges from practical to legal and will help you decide what you can do yourself and when you need to reach out to legal professional. There are even free legal updates at the nolo.com website. If you know you will be the executor of a loved one's estate I highly recommend this book.

A "Must Have" Book
By Gene P. Louie
This is an excellent book on what to do after a death. The procedures to be followed are very systematic and comprehensive. Most important are the obvious topics. They include the following:
.
1. Things to be done on the first week
.
2. First month's activities
.
3. Claiming life insurance, social security, and other benefits
.
4. Executing the will
.
5. Managing assets, paying bills, caring for children and managing their property
.
6. Taxes
.
7. Transferring property
.
8. Handling trusts
.
Because death and taxes are the certainties of life. This guide book is most valuable on "closing the book" on one's life.
