Very Skimpy Contract

I bought this book because of its Elder Care Agreement. Upon review, the content consisted of very skimpy fill in the blanks. Even with this, it did not provide as good a model as I received after further research on the web from another state. This agreement just did not look like it was a legitimate contract, just something quickly thrown together.

Dr. M. L. Nichols, whose credentials include a Doctor of Ministry degree and certifications in hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming, has used his experience working as a U.S. Navy Chaplain and a chaplain for the California state prison system to create a program to radically reduce the long-term negative emotional impact of various types of trauma. The author recognizes the place for legitimate grief and the different amounts of time required by many to overcome the grief response. The death of his mother, however, led him to query whether the legitimate grief process can be hastened and whether long-term grief can be reduced or eliminated. He developed a series of techniques that led him to answer with a resounding "Yes!" I have read various drafts of this book and have used most of the techniques on myself and in helping others through the grief process. In short,the process works!

Whether one is looking for a self-help book to assist in overcoming an emotional loss or a variety of techniques to help others go through the healing process, this book has many gems to offer. While the techniques are designed to only take a few minutes to administer, learning them properly will take a while longer. The basic technique described on pages 12-25 provides in easy to understand language "how to" steps that anyone can use with immediate improvement. The rest of the book merely elaborates on subtle ways the process can be improved. While the rest of the book is not written from a technical perspective, Nichols writes using hypnotic language patterns similar to that which he uses helping clients during a live demonstration. His desire evidently is not only to model "the language of change," but also to facilitate his readers healing process as they work through the book. His writing is also laced with jargon found in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, in which the casual reader may not be accustomed. Nichols does, however, provide a glossary of terms in the back of the book. As I was working through the book I found myself wishing that Dr. Nichols included illustrations with his book, facilitating a quicker understanding and utilization of his concepts. In this book Dr. Nichols gives us much more than a "quick fix" formula for working through painful emotions and memories. He helps the reader apply a new way of thinking and relating to others. One may argue with his claims or his presentation style. Others may prefer a "smoother" reading book.

Most will not discover, however, more quick life transforming techniques than found in this self-help tome.

Dr. Nichol's book is a practical guide to help you and me overcome loss, grief trauma and stress. If you know someone who is experiencing this kind of pain in his or her life, "When Time Doesn't Heal" is the answer. Dr. Nichol's shares his personal story how he overcame grief in a great time of loss in his personal life. More importantly he conveys how you too may bring fullness to your life by letting go of the grief, loss and pressures of life now. If you are Christian, this is a biblical approach to living in the fullness of your life. Don't wait have this resource available. This book is great gift for pastor's, friends and family, especially at an overwhelming time like these in our lives.

A must-have for anyone who doesn't still live at home.

"Stand Up To The IRS" (SUIRS) is an absolute, no-question, don't even think twice, must-have for any taxpayer's household financal tool drawer. Clearly written and presented in short, bite-sized chunks by a successful longtime tax attorney who has been through it all many times, SUIRS is an impressively inclusive text that can go a long way toward leveling the audit playing field for taxpayers -- if not outright tipping it in their favor. Loaded with sample forms, letters and where-to-find-it tables, this book earns its cover price in the Index alone. If the location of the answer to your question isn't in there, you're probably not asking it correctly. And if you ever do get audited, Chapter 16 ("The 25 Most Frequently Asked Questions") will probably do more to calm your nerves and help you rest than any sleeping pill will. Mom and dad never taught you this stuff when you were growing up, because they didn't know it. So be a good son or daughter and give them their own copy. Besides, it just might come in handy some day, as described in chapter 9 ("Family, Friends, Heirs and the IRS").

I'm a tax attorney and this is my favorite tax book of all time

I'm a tax attorney with a tax practice in San Francisco. My practice focuses on tax audits, appeals, Tax Court litigations, etc. Thus, the type of work discussed in this book is the type of work that I do every day. As you can imagine, I have read quite a few tax books. And out of all, this is my hand down favorite, of all time.

Fred Daily's book is absolutely excellent. Not only is it chock-full of helpful information, it is just a great read. Packed with practical advice and supremely well edited. I have probably read it half a dozen times over (sometimes just for fun!). The advice given is excellent (I should know). The book is quite accurate, surprisingly comprehensive and packed with information that only a time-tested professional would know. In addition, the editing is superb. Concepts are reduced to rock bottom comprehensibility, making life easier for anyone with the good fortune to have picked it up.

As an attorney, I also assist various low income tax clinics in the area. I have suggested that we make this our training book for incoming volunteers. I can't imagine a better resource for someone looking to gain a quick grasp of the tax system (we certainly couldn't prepare one ourselves). If you are dealing with a tax issue or are merely curious about how the tax system works, you cannot do better than this book. Like I said, my hands down favorite. And that's coming from a real tax attorney.

Excellent to have if you have a disagreement with the IRS

I didn't intend to stand up to the IRS but had to due to circumstances beyond my control. Daily's book gives a comprehensive look at what constrains the IRS and what sort of leeway a taxpayer might have. What I found to be of the most value, though, was his simple explaination of complex circumstances. Daily breaks down various tax problems and solutions and suggests ways to prevent having the IRS resort to putting a lien on your home, etc.

I'd highly recommend Daily's book as it has the insider perspective that a taxpayer needs but the dose of reality to prevent a false sense of security when negotiating with the IRS. Daily provides perspective as to what will work in your favor and what you can do to prevent being taken advantage of by the IRS.

For his outstanding dedication and service he receiveda Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, as well as other medals and distinctions fromhis Vietnam service. Just What Every Landlord Needs

The only book on tax deductions just for landlords. This is important because the tax laws of the US are so complex that it takes a specialized book (written in plain English) to cover a specialized area like this. For instance, changes in the tax law in 1999 made it easier to take the home office deduction and harder for the IRS to successfully object. BUT the IRS doesn't go out of its way to encourage landlords to take the deduction. Indeed you won't find a single word about it in any IRS publication or form. In this book there is a chapter on just this subject, and it includes such details that as defining when travel from your home office to your rental property is or is not deductible.

This is the kind of detail that this book goes into. It is specific to landlords so eliminates all of the other material that is just in the way when you read it. It also includes access to a web site that updates this book with any changes in the law that affect the current edition of the book.

Basically this tells you all that you need to know, and it is almost guaranteed to let you find deductions you would otherwise have missed.

Absolutely Essential

I am a law student at Yale Law School and my husband is an attorney. We own and I manage about 5 rental properties. This book is absolutely essential for anyone owning a rental property. Do not depend on your accountant as a substitute as most accountants will not know this kind of detailed information about real estate rentals (unless they specialize in it or maybe have their own rentals.) My accountant who has been in practice over 20 years did not know a lot of essential stuff which I had to guide him through(it may be time for a new accountant). If I had not read this book I would have been doomed. Because I can qualify for the unlimited deduction (not just $25,000) for rental losses, we have literally saved tens of thousands of dollars in taxes we would have otherwise had to pay on my husband's salary, legally, with the guidance of this book. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is written in a very easy to understand format and gives you almost all the information you need in one place. You cannot rely on others to properly arrange your financial affairs in this specialized area. By reading this book you will know how to buy, finance, and repair properties in ways that produce the most effective tax benefits. Consider yourself lucky that you are aware this book is out there and purchase immediately if you own rentals.

Easy to read

I'm a beginner landlord and I found this book easy to read and comprehend. Tax books are not the most exciting of reading material, so I'm only 1/4 of the way through it, but I have learned so much from it so far. I bought the book at the end of the year to prepare myself for taxes. I wish I bought it sooner, because there is many deductions that I could have taken. But it's a little late in the year now and the reciepts were trashed, so I loose there. Great book for first timers and I will probably need to refer to this book as I move into the next tax year.
