She was pretty frustrated. The second case was a single lady ...

I used this book extensively and for a no asset chapter 7, this book is very comprehensive. Especially if you supplement with the Nolo.com website.

My experience is quite comical. I showed up to my 341 meeting with the trustee. We were 1 of 3 cases to be heard between 1 and 1:30. The first case the people hired an attorney and there were numerous clerical errors and several inconsistencies. The trustee required they fix the errors, and reset their 341. She was pretty frustrated. The second case was a single lady who also hired an attorney. The attorney (or his staff) had one critical error that, if it would not have been caught by the trustee, the lady could have lost her home. There were so many questions for both parties we exceeded the time allotted.

When it was our turn, the trustee said "Okay, off the record, how did you do this"? I'm thinking to myself, yeah right there is no off the record...I asked her what she meant. She explained that they have many pro se filers and none of their forms are as well prepared and without errors like ours. She wanted to know how we managed without assistance. I explained to her that we used this book and the nolo.com website. Both sources compliment each other and as a result what prepared is what you see. Then on the record, under oath, she asked us to confirm no one assisted us in the process. We got the very standard mandatory questions and that was it. I think she was so impressed with the completeness and accuracy she was not as nit-picky as she was with the other cases.

To me, that speaks volumes to the validity and usefulness of this book. Thanks NOLO!

Must have if filing Pro Se (without a lawyer)

The trustee actually didn't believe that I completed the paperwork myself because it was done so well! You MUST make sure you are using the most current version/edition though. Bankruptcy laws change constantly so you need to have the most up to date instructions for filing.

Best book ever!

Love that it includes the laws of every state so one must buy the updated version. It gives you sample forms and how they are filled out. It walks you step by step through the process and is so helpful. i got a credit counselor to waive my pre filling fees and now I have my certificate, I am going to a clinic for legal to help as well, but without this book I would never have made it to this point. thank you NOLO you guys are the best people for any kind of legal aid thank you!

They say "the devil is in the details" but I wouldn't want to call the author the devil...

Attorney Steingold impressed me with his previous edition, and this one goes even further (we have since hired him - both my wife and I to work on contracts for our small businesses). Clear, to the point, thinking into all the things we might have missed... you couldn't get any closer to what you need in a book. However, as in life, very really does a book replace an expert. Know that the book can save you both time and money and prepare you well for an attorney, but rarely replace one. Book was excellent and we highly recommend both Attorney Steingold's books and practice.

This book was such a waste of my money. Many words to the poems repeated themselves and I found so many misspelled words or words left out it was ridiculous. I threw this book in the trash. Can't believe it wasn't edited before publishing. Not recommended.

A Good Pick Me Up

Sometimes it doesn't make much to sway us towards a bad day or a good day. Maybe it's dishes in the sink left from the night before, maybe it's missing the traffic light on the way to work, maybe it's the baby keeping us up at night...or maybe it's a poem from a book that gives us that needed push towards optimism that gets our day going well. Maybe this book can help you have more good days than bad like it's helped me...

More Than a Bunch of Words

Think beyond the words and phrases. Create a vision in your mind and a feeling in your heart. Rinse and repeat ... daily. It's these feelings that give voice to your heart and allow others to see and feel you. The author gives you pages of reflections that invite you back one day after another.

Stacey had the foresight to be repetitious, especially when the emphasis is on an important concept, such as love and happiness being interrelated. She says that "Giving up is not an option. The present is now. Today is a new day." It is a day without hate, criticism and belittlement, especially for those who are carrying a heavier burden than you or I. This author is that person, her burden is very real - and she speaks from her heart through poems to comfort, inspire and reflect with you ... never "for" you.

This is both a book and a kindle product. Keep it handy and open to tomorrow's inspirational, motivational and/or meditational poem. One poem per day and one day at the time.

A MUST FOR NEW PARENTS OF TWINS!

I came across Lyons' book while finding a gift for a mom-to-be of twins who is in her last weeks of pregnancy. Being a Mom of twins myself, I was elated at the practical and straightforward advice and tips offered. Where was this book when my babies were born?!?! I couldn't get over how jam packed the book is and what a deal it is considering you don't need to buy any other books to get you ready for your new arrivals! I read the whole book cover to cover and found myself laughing, learning, and loving all over again.

Great Book - Practical Advice with humor!!

I looked and looked for books about having and raising twins. Lyons approaches this with humor - a great relief compared to the comments of "well-wishers." This is one of the best - easy to read and it makes the task seem less daunting! A must have if you are expecting two little ones!!!

About the Author
Lawrence Siegel has been a Special Education Attorney and Advocate since 1979, and has represented children with disabilities extensively in IEPs, due process, complaints, legal action and before legislative and policy bodies. Mr. Siegel has lectured and consulted with advocacy and parent groups throughout the country and is a member of the California Advisory Commission on Special Education. He has written special education legislation that has been adopted in several states and is the author of Least Restrictive Environment: The Paradox of Inclusion (LRP Publications, 1994). Mr. Siegel is the founder and Director of the National Deaf Education Project which works to ensure that the fundamental communication needs of deaf and hard of hearing children are part of the educational system. In 2004-5 he was appointed to an endowed chair at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. for his work as an advocate special education

Excellent overview of various laws for everyday life.

If there is only one legal book that you wish to buy, let it be this one. Or if you are looking to buy your first legal book, this is the best choice. The reason is that this book contains information on the law in a great many areas of everyday life - houses, neighbors, landlords and tenants, workplace rights, small businesses, patents, wills and estate planning, parents and children, etc. There are also two valuable chapters on courts and criminal law. These two chapters have information on how to represent yourself in court, how to deal with your lawyer, and what to do in case of an arrest or search.
Every single topic I researched on my own from 'What does renter's insurance cover?' to 'Do I need a lawyer to make my will?', I found that this book has the most comprehensive information on the topic than anywhere else I looked. I have now formed a system where I always consult this book first and then go to the specific Nolo book on the topic for very detailed information if needed. I have over 30 Nolo guides and I feel so much more confident about my understanding of the law as a result of reading these books. I think my lawyer also appreciates it as she finds it easy to work with me on the various legal issues in my business.
The Nolo guides typically look pricey (compared to other books) but really aren't when you consider the wealth of information provided and the depth of topics covered along with the plain English explanations. My two favorite chapters in this book are the last two chapters - Courts and Mediation AND Criminal Law and Procedure. I had always been interested in HOW the law is actually implemented and these two chapters gave me a good start in gaining this understanding. I also thoroughly enjoyed the three chapters on Patents, Copyrights, and Trademarks. I especially like the explanation on how to enforce a patent and how to enforce a trademark.
Each chapter has many reference links at the end of the chapter where you can check those out for more detailed information or verify the information presented from the original sources. There is a glossary at the end of the book that is short but helpful in explaining hundreds of legal terms and there is an appendix on how to do legal research. This 10 page section on legal research is PACKED with information. This alone saved me hours of research on HOW to do legal research!

Top Notch Legal Reference for the Layman

No, this won't substitute for professional advice from a real live attorney, but it does provide a great deal of informaion, allowing the reader to get a better undestanding of the law and to be better prepared for legal discussions with attorneys. The Encyclopedia of Everyday Law is written in clear, easy-to-understand language and, without going into too many details, should provide the layman with an excellent overview of a varity of different topics, each of which merits its own chapter. Legal topics include the following:

1. Houses
2. Neighbors
3. Landlords and Tenants
4. Workplace Rights
5. Small Business
6. Patents
7. Copyrights
8. Trademarks
9. Your Money
10. Cars and Driving
11. Wills and Estate Planning
12. Health Care Directives and Powers of Attorney
13. Older Americans
14. Spouses and Partners
15. Parents and Children
16. Courts and Mediation
17. Criminal Law and Procedure

There's also a glossary of legal terms provided, as well as an appendix on conducting legal research. All in all, this is an excellent reference book that should be in the library of anyone who has an interest in law or needs some basic legal guidance.

We've all had our moments when we encountered a situation and wondered, is this legal? Or what does the law say concerning this? Thanks to the internet, it is much easier to find an answer quickly so you might wonder why bother to buy this book? Well, the reason to buy it is because it assembles a great deal of useful information into one place, logically arranged by chapters(topics) and then similarly arranged in a logical way within each chapter.

Another reviewer already listed the table of contents so there is no need to repeat it, but I would say that the chapters cover a broad range and most of the things that get commonly asked, but that we are not sure of the answer. Most of the content within each chapter is structured like an FAQ page (frequently asked questions page) and it is easy for the reader to flip through to find what he or she is looking for. There are also useful charts, examples, and both online and offline references listed at the end of each chapter.

For a very reasonable price, this is something that pretty much everyone should have on their bookshelf. Even if you have no pressing need for it now, sooner or later it will come in handy. The breadth and depth are impressive for a general reference; sure, if you have a specific or unusual case you may have to do further research or consult an attorney but this book gives you a good starting point and also answers a lot of questions up front so you don't need to go any further.
