Although not stated, this volume is apparently intended by Nolo to replace Janice Kosel's perennial Bankruptcy: Do It Yourself , which has a California emphasis; however, it will complement her Chapter 13: Federal Plan to Repay Debts (Nolo Pr., 1987. 3d ed.). The present work is more up-to-date than Benji Anosike's How To Declare Your Personal Bankruptcy Without a Lawyer (Do-It-Yourself Pubs., 1983), and although less comprehensive than the excellent Consumer Bankruptcy Law and Practice (National Consumer Law Ctr., 1988 . 3d ed.), which is intended for lawyers but useful for laypersons, this is a best buy to support a commonly asked legal reference question. Excellent and accurate resource

This book has been my light at the end of the tunnel. It took me approximately 4 wks. to research the book and understand it so I didn't make any mistakes in filing inaccurate information but once I did the paperwork (all through the mail) it only took 1 wk. before the creditors meeting was set for 3 wks. later and the entire chapter 7 should be done within about 3 months. I was the only one present at my meeting without an attorney but my meeting as well as the 15 people before me only took 5 minutes each in front of the trustee. None of the creditors in any of the cases showed up except Sears in other cases but they just noted the information for their records. This is possible to do by yourself and for approximately $175.00 administrative and filing fees. No other costs have been incurred and I am on my way to a new start. Thank you so much!

This book saved me attorney's fees! Worth its weight in gold

I can't say enough wonderful things about this book!

6 months ago I was contemplating bankruptcy. I searched for a book to help me and decided to buy this one. Honestly, I figured I'd read it, be more confused than ever and have to hire an attorney.

That's NOT what happened. I took a weekend and studied every page of this book and took notes. I filled out and filed my bankruptcy petition on my own. Today, I attended my creditor's meeting. Now, in just 2 months, I'll receive my discharge. All WITHOUT a lawyer!

Filing bankruptcy without a lawyer is more time consuming, but the money saved is worth it. Just take your time and study this book and you'll be fine.

Easy to Follow Big Money Saver

I recently filed for bankruptcy using the book How to File a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. It told me where to file, what schedules to file, how to fill them out,what fees I would have to pay. By doing this, I saved myself over a $1000 that a lawyer quoted me if he were going to do it for me. Though meticulous and a bit detailed,the book is not hard to read. So, if you too want to file your bankruptcy yourself and save yourself a $1000, buy this book! I filed, paid my fees, attended the 5 minute bankruptcy hearing myself--all without any problem. It was a breeze!

A really cool Psalms-are-Prophetic Primer

This book is great! I normally don't like "prophecy" books of any flavor. But this was cool! Why? This book fulfills its stated purpose: to delineate the life of Christ within the Psalms. He also covers "Christianity 201" topics, if you will. And, what's personally satisfying to me: he presents these items in a non-judging tone, tough for many (most that I've read, at any rate) Biblical scholars to do.

Written well, an easy style to read and ponder, and extremely well-organized! I'd write more about its actual contents, but the gist of it is in the "author's blurb" above.

I think the people who would benefit most from reading this book are a) new Christians who need an introduction into this kind of integral-Bible wholeness, b) "old" Christians who would like to know more about this topic, and c) pastors/ ministers doing research on any topic for a sermon; he's got it in there, somewhere!

And for a buck, it's nice!

Shallow book with no real information

I am lawyer from Brazil, and wanted to get real information about the green card application process (without having to go through the dry explanation in the INS website) and was completely disapointed and upset when I received this book. It does not cover anything in depth, and wastes a lot of time talking about temporary visas, fiance visas (I thougt it was supposed to explain about greencards!), special greencards for amerasians (which is not a very common situation)...

As for what I was really interested in, which was the green card application process for work-related reasons, there is a small, incomplete paragraph and a suggestion that I find an attorney!!!!

Waste of money, useless -- if you want to get a green card, either find another book, check the INS website, or hire a lawyer, this book will not help at all.

The first and last word in finding free art and music

Highly recommended! I'm an artist and musician and I've been waiting for a book like this for years. It's like a road map that lets you figure out what stuff you can use without permission (and without having to ask a lawyer if its okay). And there is a lot of free art out there ... not just old stuff but U.S. government art, etc. It's a very sharp, well-written book with lots of interesting trivia, too.

An incredibly wonderful and useful book!!!!

As a writer of musical theatre, I am constantly brainstorming for new ideas and thinking about what works may be in the public domain to use. Finally there is a book that removes so much of the guess work. Stephen Fishman has written a book that is very "user friendly" and incredibly helpful. He gives all the important facts, and describes how to do your own research on copyright status (to avoid those heavy fees the goverment office charges!). It is also full of interesting sidebars, mini-charts of famous public domain works, tips, advice....everything you could ask for. I find myself just picking it up to flip through for fun....and now I practically I feel like an expert on the subject! In summary, this book is a must have!

NOLO writes legal books for the rest of us. I've used other NOLO books and gave this one a shot. I found this book to be a wonderful guide to the whole subject of public domain, from where to find it to how to use it effectively. It was also a great introduction to the history of public domain and its significance in the legal landscape of intellectual property. it's a great resourse for anyone that needs creative content for free!

Chinsuko! Ukoncha!

ADV's manga translation team is to be commended. Their cultural notes section is without flaw - except in two cases. I'll get to that.
By now, Osaka has dropped most of her Osak... Italian accent. (why did they make her a mobster in the manga and a hick in the anime?) Chiyo's changed her hair. Sakaki is able to touch a cat without being mamed. A wind of change comes through the world of Azumanga Daioh.
This final volume crams in more funny than the previous three. Along with a good dose of comedy, you learn more about the characters and their lives.
The highlights of this book lie in the shiisaa, the sata andagi, Yamapikaryaa, Osaka's good luck charm, and the final summer vacation... Where, unfortunately, Yukari is awake already.
However there are two problems with the translation. When Tomo buys souveniers, she picks up two notable things: "Chinsuko" and "ukoncha." The cultural notes didn't tell us this, but Tomo was being dirty - thus Yomi's flustered reaction. "Chinsuko," when pronounced a certain way, kinda sounds like one of the terms for the male.. Y'know. "Ukoncha" kind of sounds like "poop tea." I am not making this up. I suppose I can understand why ADV Manga didn't translate this (or maybe they didn't get it), but with the 13+ rating you'd think they would.
Despite the two errors (yay only two!) this fourth volume is a great end to a great story. It makes me cry every time I read the end, and I've read/seen Azumanga a bajillion times.

A wonderful ending to a wonderful classic.

I have had the awesome pleasure of reading the last volume of Azumanga Daioh (the manga version). By now, everyone who follows this series (that should be a reasonable majority of those with a good taste for manga) will have been familiar with all of the characters in the story. However, the third year, and in effect, the series, begins to come to an end.
Some highlights that I want to point out to all include:
* The story of Maya, in which Sakaki finds the young Iriomote cat, and relishes in having someone to play with.
* Nyamo at the study session in Chiyo's home, where she begins to literally unravel.
* Chopsticks: Osaka seems to have been a bit clairvoyant in corrolating chopsticks with Center exam success.
* Graduation. A wonderful ending to this volume.
With all the manga volumes out for sale, I encourage everybody (you know who you are) to purchase these four treasures, or at least browse through them at your local store if you can. Azumanga is a classic, and if you though the manga was good, wait till you see the anime!

Me being the impatient person I am, I bought this volume first and ruined most of the story for myself ;_;

...but you probably really don't care.

By this time, through 3 books, you'll have picked out your favorite character, related to them in some way, figured out who in your life relates to Mr. Kimura (keep him away from me), and what the heck Azumanga Daioh's come to mean to you. This is the last volume of this story. That's right, go get a hankerchief, I don't want you smearing up the pages. The ending is really meaningful, because the author doesn't go into the whole epilouge thing that leaves you wondering even more. Also, the first few color pages contain some of the funniest moments in the whole book. *sigh* I can't say much else, but that if you like the whole random, really about nothing, overly charming and funny pages Azumanga's been, you know to get this book as darned fast as you can type in the search word and buy it.

One of the best books on grief

Sandra pulls you in to her personal life and grief and showsyou not only how to survive it yourself, but how to help others aswell. It is heartwarming and honest. I've read the first version, "Living Through the Loss of Someone You Love" and this new version has all of the same poignant personal stories plus more insight and help on the grief process. Sandra offers up her own personal--and successful--experience in addition to the "self-help" format. As you're reading this book and wake up grief-stricken in the middle of the night and ask yourself, "Is this normal?" the answer you get is from someone who's been there--and who also shows she truly is an expert. Great to give to someone who is grieving when you just don't have the words yourself.

Healing for the Emptiness Inside

If the loss of your loved one has left a gaping hole in your heart, this book provides keys to healing. The author's 38-year-old husband died of brain cancer after 16 months of treatment, leaving a 10-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, and stress-induced lupus to manage. Her welcoming and conversational writing style, plus years of experience as a teacher, funeral home representative and editor for Focus On The Family make this a book appropriate for caring friends and caregivers in addition to those grieving the loss of a loved one.
Each of the 13 chapters are well-organized with clearly marked points for easy reference. A list of simple reminders at the end of each chapter provides helpful summaries and quotes. A study guide makes this book useful for grief support groups and widows discussion groups.
I especially recommend "Will I Ever Be Whole Again?" for widows of cancer, widows with children, and as a guide to grief during the first two years of loss.

Read it and read it again...

I bought this book when I was seeking a book to understand the things my sister in law was doing after her husband died. It just so happened that the book I went to find was not there, and I bought this one. I read it, and I read it again. I've read it numerous times and highlighted things that touched me deeply. I always recommend it to anyone I know who is facing grief, or wants to understand and help someone who is.

About the Author
Ralph "Jake" Warner,widely recognized as a pioneer of the do-it-yourself law movement, Warner founded Nolo with Ed Sherman in 1972. He began publishing do-it-yourself law books written by him and his colleagues after numerous publishers rejected them. Warner holds a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley and an undergraduate degree from Princeton.

Nolo's legal editors are lawyers who have dedicated themselves to creating books and software that give people legal information in plain English. More than a dozen legal editors, who together have hundreds of year of legal experience, currently work on Nolo products.

Robin Leonard is a former attorney who gave up the law to become a rabbi. She is the author of many Nolo books including Money Troubles: Legal Strategies to Cope with Your Debts and Credit Repair. She also helped write How to File for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and A Legal Guide for Lesbian and Gay Couples.

Great Title

This book is fantastic. There is a wealth of useful forms for everything you can imagine. I recieved this book as a gift and though that it would just take up space on my bookshelf. Ironically it has been the most referred to and used book I have ever owned. I have used the book to set up a power of attorney, prepare a tenants notice to move out, demand the return of a security deposit, complete a loan comparison worksheet, and to sell my dog. This book provides the forms and the explanation to do eveything I mentioned as well as a ton of other common transactions. It has saved me hundreds of dollars and I beleive that anyone who buys this book will cover the cost of the book within three months by making use of the forms and instructions provided.

I'm an attorney. I've used this book. I've recommended specific forms from this book to non-lawyers. (Hey, it's cheaper and easier than Bender's for the simple stuff. e.g. Amazon sells Bender's Forms of Discovery: Complete Library (Bender's Forms of Discovery, 1-16) for 4 figures.)

Should *you* purchase this book?
If you're an attorney, sure. If you have the training and experience to recognize whether a particular form is sufficient for a particular purpose in your particular jurisdiction, then these forms can be convenient. If you have had the good sense to avoid law school, should you purchase this book? These forms could be dangerous to use. The problem, of course, is that it is literally impossible for a book to engage in the analysis required to determine whether one of the forms in this book will meet your particular need(s) in the particular jurisdiction(s) involved.

The authors devote three whole paragraphs to the question "Do You Need a Lawyer." They, of course, don't give a yes or no answer. They don't even provide an algorithm you can apply to your situation to arrive at an answer. Because they simply cannot do so. They do maintain "[c]reating a solid written agreement - especially where a lot of money or property is at stake - will occasionally mean obtaining the advice of a lawyer." I think that understates the problem. Drastically.

For example, chapter 4 deals with landlord-tenant forms. Landlord-tenant law is ridiculously local. Hyper local. It doesn't vary just from state to state, it changes from city to city. The forms you need to use in New York City may be completely different from the forms you need to use in Albany. Never mind the differences between New York and California.

Another example, some of chapter 10 is generally applicable because it deals disputing credit card debt - which is governed, in part, by federal law. But you may have state law rights that exceed the federal protections. If you have 10k in credit card debt, would you want to risk it?

A must have for an intelligent frugal like myself

This book was terrific. If you have half a brain and like to save money this book is a must have. It contians almost every essentail form that you will need and it explians what they are and how to use them in a clear and concise way that even my nine year old niece could understand. And I guarantee that you will rely on this thing at least once a year for the rest of your life it is just that useful.
