About the Author
Ralph "Jake" Warner,widely recognized as a pioneer of the do-it-yourself law movement, Warner founded Nolo with Ed Sherman in 1972. He began publishing do-it-yourself law books written by him and his colleagues after numerous publishers rejected them. Warner holds a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley and an undergraduate degree from Princeton.
Stewart writes and edits books on landlord-tenant law, real estate, and other consumer issues. She is the co-author of First-Time Landlord, Nolo's Essential Guide to Buying Your First Home, Every Landlord's Legal Guide, Every Tenant's Legal Guide, Leases and Rental Agreements, and Renters' Rights.
As Nolo's managing editor, Portman oversees editorial work on all Nolo books. She specializes in residential and commercial landlord/tenant law, legal issues related to courts, landlords and tenants, and neighbor disputes. She is the author or co-author of Every Landlord's Legal Guide, Every Landlord's Guide to Finding Great Tenants, Every Tenant's Legal Guide, Renters' Rights, Negotiate the Best Lease for Your Business, Leases & Rental Agreements, The California Landlord's Law Book and California Tenants' Rights. Portman received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stanford University and a law degree from Santa Clara University. Before joining Nolo in 1994, she practiced law as a public defender.

More money to view legal forms

I purchased this because I wanted to look at the actual legal forms. It advertises access to them online in the book if you buy the book. I went on the website and they wanted more money to access these forms. The book does have a lot of good information, but wanting more money to view the forms made me disappointed. This use to come with a CD with the forms on it to use, and then it was changed to the online format. Which they are not using to get more money from people. Only buy if you are interested in the information.

I have purchased four of the Nolo books and all of them are excellent. At first I thought that I had been misled because I didn't see some of the forms that I hoped for in the book. Then I found a URL listed in the book to download the forms from the Nolo web site. Outstanding - better than I hoped for!
This book offers detailed yet practical for many of the varied, and occasionally unpleasant, tasks that a landlord must deal with. It's well written and two of the authors are attorneys, so I trust the information is reliable. Nolo seems to stress their desire to help their customers. If you purchase the book and use the URL contained in the book, you'll find more than just forms. There are free, short videos on a variety of topics pertinent to the business of obtaining and renting properties.

Forms are near impossible to access

I bought this book mostly because of the forms that came with it, but you cannot download them without signing up for a specific download service. Dont waste your time with this book.
