Don't waste your money on this book, save it for the filing fees

This book assumes you have little if not Zero knowledge about the immigration process. If you are looking to get this book it is likely you have visited a few sites and even consulted the USCIS website about how to go about your own immigration concerns. If you have done some research and hope that this book will supplement all the info you've gathered online, you will be sorely disappointed. It provides an introduction to the immigration process through marriage but does not give substantial resource on how to go about filing your application. No updated information about forms applicable or necessary for either K based or AOS petitions and how to file them, how to apply for EAD, what to write on your application and how to interview.
I needed info for a very straightforward case of Adjustment of Status for a family based spousal petition on a foreign spouse inside the US that is in status with a B2 visa. This is not a complicated case and all I needed was inside info on forms, timelines and what to do and not to do when filing for this type of petition. The book did not provide any useful information--at least not anything you cannot glean from merely searching the internet.
The book gives you a very watered down introduction to marriage based visas which is useless for the lay. If you buy this book, be prepared to hire a lawyer because you cannot go through the process on your own with just this as your resource. Don't waste your money. You are better off visiting internet resources like immihelp or visajourney. They provide up to date information and procedures on how to file marriage based visa applications with forums for people that need more help about their case. If I didn't order the kindle version this book would be returned! Very disappointed.

Update:
Managed to file USCIS forms without ever opening or consulting this book. My main resource was the USCIS website, Immihelp, and stalking the Visajourney message boards. You will be amazed at the wealth of information these websites provide. They have updated forms for all the category visa applications and have corresponding instructions with sample forms for your reference. The instructions are thorough and clear. If you can take the time to nitpick every detail about filing these forms then you will do fine without consulting a lawyer. But then, the choice of doing the forms by yourself or assisted by counsel really depends on the case. Complicated ones, involving disqualifications or certain visa violations should probably consult an attorney, however, for straight forward cases like mine--you'll be fine doing it yourself and just putting in the time to do the research. And yes, before you buy this book go and visit the sites i suggest you AVOID AT ALL COST and save your money for the filing fees. Don't waste it with this book. Just be patient and do your research, don't regret paying for this thing. It is totally useless. I would give it ZERO stars if I could.

Good Reference Book - But Not As Much Info As I Wanted

I started out with an earlier edition version of this book, but I doubt that much has been improved in this latest edition. You can be the judge the hard way. This is the voice of experience.
Now that my fiancee has just now arrived here from the Philippines, I can say that this book is useful, but still inadequate. However, there is simply not good detailed information to be successful with this book alone. I've been reading my book as I have gone through the various stages and I still have to ask my consultant questions. Although this is a very thick book with lots of forms and examples, it is still too generalized. The book tries to cover every possible scenario but in doing so, the layout is confusing and insufficient for any specific case.
My situation was very straightforward. I am widowed and my fiancee has never been married nor had any children. I have two children who are fully grown. So I don't think my situation could be any simpler. Thankfully I hired a USA based consultant who specialized in Asia and even he wasn't really up to date on everything. Procedures continue to change. A fiancee visa is too long a process to take the risk of making even the slightest of mistakes or omissions. You could end up starting over or usually being seriously delayed. There are just too many details that are missing in this book - things like details of backup documentation to submit for the applications, how to prepare for the medical exam and how to properly prepare for the make it or break it embassy interview.
From the day that my fiancee visa petition was received by the Department of Homeland security until the day she arrived was exactly 40 weeks to the day. There was not a single day of delay. It just takes a long time to get processed. However, without my consultant, I would have lost at least six weeks waiting for the NVC letter to arrive. Simple tip: Don't wait, phone the NVC to get your case number a week or two after you get the USCIS approval letter. See if that is mentioned anywhere in this book!
If I had depended solely on this book, I think my fiancee would still be waiting for the embassy interview. You can try to do this cheaply and you might be successful, but I strongly believe most people would end up making mistakes and providing inadequate information and mess up or dramatically delay their application. A USA based consultant will cost about $1000 to get you from the beginning through the Adjustment of Status phase. I am just about at the point of preparing to get married now. The paperwork for the Adjustment of Status is as daunting as the fiancee visa. And even if the K1 visa forms are perfect, it does not guarantee you that your fiancee can get a permanent visa or green card. We have another two years to go before her temporary visa can become a permanent visa. From the time we met on-line until she gets her permanent residence visa will be about four years. I met her 1.75 years ago. It is a very long process, but you can make it a lot longer if you mess up.
Anyway, I strongly encourage any serious person not to depend solely on this book even though it is a very good reference book. I think it could have been made more useful if more practical details were listed. However, I think that there would need to be a country-by-county section to cover everything. The Philippines has more than double the number of fiancee visas of the next country, Mexico. So I think that it should at least have dedicated sections for the Philippines and Mexico. Actually the next three countries make up most of the fiancee visas. It wouldn't take that much more to write to cover 90% of the countries.

Great resource! Saved us $$$$

This book saved us thousands of dollars of lawyers fees. My fiancee and I consulted, left a deposit, and later found out that what was promised, was not what was going to be delivered. We bought this book for research, and ended up following all it's advice and made it all the way through without a hitch! my wife and step-children are now residents! I highly recommend this book to anyone that needs help with the immigration process.
