Another ending that's not the end.
By Mr. Vulcan
I bet some Evangelion fans run away from this screaming. But the translation of the manga tie in that fits somewhere between the alternate continuity glimpsed in episode 26 of the original series. And the 'Girlfriend of Steel' video game, is quite refreshing for this reader. I think that grown up fans who have experienced failed love can appreciate the sort of hopeful outlook offered by these many tangents the all flow naturally from 'Neon Genesis Evangelion'. Interesting is that this volume gives us the end sort of, but not really. There is a volume 5 that dives into an unseen part of the past.

An interesting alternate evangelion
By Brad
Calamity, as the appearance of the "giant of light", Adam, heralds the appearance of a number of invading angels. The evas and their pilots are rushed into battle, but one of them isn't who he claims to be.
Adam, appearing abruptly once again, attempts to absorb Shinji, promising him "the world he's always wanted", yet the offer falls on deaf ears as another voice calls Shinji back from the brink.
Kensuke once again confesses his feelings to the one he adores, but this time is given a clear picture on where he stands.
Rei and Shinji speak once again about their relationship, coming to a conclusion that at least one of them saw.
Shinji's beloved friend since childhood, Kaworu, comes to the realisation that Shinji is finally happy and no longer has the loneliness that dogged his existence before. As such, Kaworu decides his time with his friend is finally over.
And Asuka takes a leap of faith (literally!) to finally be with the one she loves.
The heroes certainly look different when all grown up...
(Another ten points if Mitsato Katsuagi's voice became your inner monologue whilst reading this ;) )
In essence, the story continues along the lines of less focus on then angel/evangelion battles and more towards the trials and tribulations of growing up/maturing.
Those that have seen the series (anime) might remember an episode towards the end which shows the main three characters (Shingi, Asuka & Rei) getting ready for and running to school (Shinji colliding with Rei, accused of seeing her panties, etc.), which is the arc this particular series follows.
It's a good little romp and does show a different side to the eva universe (it also makes a bit more sense than the anime did)
If you're into chaotic love triangles, giant robots and a touch of fan service, definitely have a look. The final volume is simply a fun glimpse at the characters when they're older
