Intriguing story!

I recently corresponded with the author by email, as I had some questions about "Morning of the World." Foremost in my mine was the fact that I was considering visiting Bali, and after reading his novel, I felt a little apprehensive. I must admit a few of the chapters should be avoided right before bedtime. Mr. Jung assured me that Bali was a delightful and fascinating travel destination, and it would be unlikely I would encounter any vampire witches, as long as I avoided the rice paddies at night! I read this as a member of a book club composed mostly of "little old ladies". To say some of us were disturbed by parts of this story is an understatement. But it surely made for some interesting and lively conversation! It is an intriguing story and very well told. I've already ordered Mr. Jung's other book, "Still Life in a Red Dress" and hope to share it with my book club.

What a thriller! Couldn't put it down!

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Jung's first novel "Still Life in a Red Dress", and was therefore expecting a story in a similar vein. Surprised? Yes. Disappointed? No. "Morning of the World" is a shot from left field. But there is still a great deal of similarities in the writer's "voice", the complexity of his characters, and his ability to transport the reader to the always exotic settings of his stories, in this case, Hawaii, Bali and oddly enouigh, a prison yard in Rwanda. It is difficult to categorize this story as it weaves from the occult and Balinese mythology to an exploration of the relationship between the divorced couple whose search for the truth is the heart of this story. A friend who also read it had some difficulty with the fact that one must suspend a certain degree of belief with aspects of the story (Balinese vampire witches) But Mr. Jung carrries it off and makes one believe. I read it in the course of a day and a half while on vacation. I couldn't put it down. I also have to say parts kept me awake at night. Thumbs up!

a fascinating novel

"Morning of the World" is the second of Mr. Jung's novels I have read. I found both to be fascinating and immensely engrossing not only due to their original subject matter but also because of the author's talent for description, his ear for dialogue, and his ability to define his characters. I read both of his novels almost without a break, and wanted neither of them to end. This novel especially appealed to the arm chair adventurer in me. I enjoy stories that remove me from the comfort of that chair and allow me to experience different worlds. I also enjoy fiction that educates me about history or foreign cultures. Both of his books provided that along with well paced action and adventure. I highly recommend Mr. Jung's novels to readers looking for this kind of story.
